Now That's What I Call Stuff

Well here it is [finally], my first compilation. After much track picking, changing, editing, and mixing I've finally burnt a CD that I'm not quite happy with, but can't be arsed to do any more. I've neither kept to a theme nor tried to please everyone, just picked some tracks that I like. You'll either love it or hate it, or quite like it, or find it mildly annoying, or be completely indifferent. Here's the album cover if you choose to make it all proper. And on to the Tracklist: 1. Jeff Mills - Berlin Thought i'd kick off the compilation hard and fast, the way I like it! I could have picked almost any choon on Mills' Waveform Transmission - Volume 1 album, beautifully crafted minimal techno. bouncybouncybouncybouncy 2. Dave Clarke - Thunder In the words of Pink "God is a DJ", that DJ just happens to be Dave Clarke; awesome minimal techno at it's english best, to be found on the Red Three 12" just before The Storm. 3. Green Velvet - La La Land Hypnotic beats from crazy Cajmere, perfect for the crazy person. Has a certain gay sound to it. Groove to it or be annoyed by it. 4. Boney M - Rasputin The kings of dance, knowingly using killer basslines, you can't help boogying along to any one of their hits. I chose Rasputin for the poignant story that unfolds via the medium of lyrics... Ohhhh those Russians. 5. Coldcut feat QBert I'm a big fan of turntablism and Q-bert is one of it's best purveyors. 6. DJ Yoda - George Formby Turntabalised A bit more turntablism, this time from the stables of DJ Yoda, his DJ sets have to be heard (and seen) to be believed. This track is a short taster, incorporating my other favourite George Formby. Bonus. 7. Miss Kittin - Professional Distortion Not to be mistaken for the anarchic big brother kitten. Electroclash? Rock meets Blip-Hop? 8. Simple Minds - Theme For Great Cities So much better than the house remix by Dave Lee that was done many years later. I think 'back in the day' (or 'back in the day' before I was born) this was called prog rock. 9. Royksopp - What Else Is There I liked their "Melody A.M" album, but the followup "The Understanding" was nowhere near as good(imho)...apart from this track. 10. Osymyso - Fiver to Bigwig The genius of Osymyso remaster Bright Eyes, a twitchy nose and the largest pair of ears he'd ever seen! 11. Orbital - Doctor? A DrWho remix??? How bizarre, yet so right. 12. Public Enemy - Bring Tha Noize(With Anthrax) Not the first time there's been a rap/metal duo crossover stylee thing, more famously with Run DMC and Aerosmith which I loved at the time, but radio repetition dulled my senses on that one. 13. Prime time radio gaff, rather humerous. 14, Rhubarb & Custard The themetune, no remix, no bootleg mix, just the theme tune, ORIGINAL Possibly one of the most beautifully crafted musical pieces in the history of themetunes to kids tv shows involving badly drawn cartoon cats and dogs, ever. 15. Dr Evil & Mini Me - Hard Knock Life Wow that Dr Evil sure can rap. 16. Osymyso - Intro Expansion 2 Another slice of Osymyso, I had to put this at the end as it's brilliance(TM) would have been impossible to follow. Oompaloompabeegeenirvana There you go, hope you like it, no idea how I'm going to get the CD's to y'all but it could be via Taoski or I could snailmail if you supply your addresses...

Threesday 6: The Big Win

Picture the scene... Track 1 Artist: Erwin Lehn Orchestra Title: Color Download Here You play the flop, surf the river and win on the turn, collect your coat from the bird behind the bar, scoop up your winnings and turn and leave the table. Life is good, god is on your side and your opponents are eyeing daggers in your back as the door swings shut behind you. Cue the music! Track 2 Artist: Red Snapper Title: Cortina Download Here You got alot of money - a hell of a lot of money! Its almost spilling out of your pockets as you do a half jog back to your car round the corner. It looks sad. It looks pathetic. Certainly not what you will be driving in a few days time. You got money now son - gotta get some class. You jump in, start the engine and switch the radio on. Track 3 Artist: Depth Charge Title: Harley Davidson Download Here Lights stream by the taxi window in a milky blur. An unknown blonde is in the seat next to you. Your eyes have no focus. She leans over and kisses your cheek and whispers in your ear. You know you have had and are in for a good time. Psuedoscience Politcal constraints forbid me to not mention that the song files will be hosted at SendMeFile for no more and no less than 14 days. MIMO!

I feel a new compilation coming on

Electro pop coming in your face boys!

Threesday 5: The second cumming

Greets all. I'm back from my hedonistic week away at Cafe Dirtbox and have smuggled you some new tunes back in my hand luggage hidden inside my copy of "Sudoku tips for Saddoku twats". I was going to make the theme of this weeks Threesday into a remix homage to the heyday of Britpop which happened a mere 10 years ago. The truth of the matter is that i failed to find the third remixed track to make the threesome I was looking for. The Moby remix of Blur's catchy and rudely entitled hit, "Beetlebum", was not up to much... So you get two Britpop remixes and another track I forgot all about (which may not be a bad thing after all). Track 1 Artist: Portishead and DJ Shadow (UNKLE) Title: Time Has Come Download Here Early 90s. Britpop. Cool Brittania. First job. First girlfriend. First shag? Queue the first track! The non-abusing UNKLE DJ Shadow rips and distorts the UKs carrot munching, tractor driving, trip-hop, break-beat stars. I tried to see them at Glasto' one year when they played in a tent the size of WhiteBoyBobs pants. Needless to say, I never saw or heard them as it was far too crowded and I was well off my head on acid anyway watching Ozrics on the travellers stage! Or did I dream it? Track 2 Artist: Greenday vs Oasis vs Travis Title: Wonderwall Of Broken Dreams 2 Download Here This track has layed dormant in the "My Shared Folder" area on my hard disk for quite a while. Not that it never gets played, it's just that... well... I feel a little embarassed that I like it. Sort of like fancying someone off Eastenders - your mates would laugh if they knew, but you just know in your loins that something feels right. Its probably the best (technically) remix of Wonderwall there is if you exclude the 1-hit-wunder version by Mike Flowers Pops and that version I do on my guitar when the wife has gone out. Chuck in a heavy dose of the newly crowned "kings of soft-n-fluffy punk" Greenday and a smattering of lyrics from the dolphin friendly, "we were here before Coldplay" scottie rockers Travis and there you have it. Track 3 Artist: Les Rhythm Digitales Title: Jaques Your Body Download Here This track reminds you of "Spaceman" by Babylon Zoo - if only due to the fact that it is a total let down when you hear the whole song. They fooled you into buying it after they played the best bit of the song on a cool advert. Just like they did with the adverts for Madagascar! My sons refer to this track (and the car) as the "Bumbaday" and I know it as nothing less than "disappointing". Thankfully, the rest of the album is crap too. Enjoy! As per usual the files here are for personal, internal and anal use only between consenting adults and are not permitted to be broadcast on any christian radio station, "Trevor Bayliss" wind-up radios or molar filling alien message receiver devices. Those "very, very nice people" over at SendMeFile have again hosted the files for a limited earth time of 14 days. After then they will be removed, wiped, deleted and purged from every recycle bin in the land by the hand of the almighty internet godhead (me). Coming soon on Threesdays: "Dance tracks I tripped my tits off to - Part 4 - Laughing Bhuddas, Black Microdots and 'The only way is up' by Yazz".

Threesday 4: In Da Mix

As I am off on my well earned holiday with the family next week the Threesday comes a week early to you lucky punters. It was a bit of a "oh crap! - what do I put on this week" as I have not pre-planned a theme as per the other Threesdays, but... What do you mean you did'nt notice the themes? Tsk... All my hard work just goes to waste... Track 1 Artist: The Herbaliser Title: Nahmean Nahm Sayin Download Here This shuffled onto my iPod whilst I was trotting round Tesco the other night feeling lonely and looking like I was there on the pull and really cheered me up. I had'nt realised how good it was until all the minger checkout ladies started bangin' their butts on their barcode scanners to the dirty rhythms leaking from my earphones. Sweary hip-hip funk type stuff at its best. Track 2 Artist: Skindred Title: Pressure Download Here Me ol matey Bigfootcookie was talking about Skindred the other day on his blog so I thought I had better include a track for the uninitiated. Loud, harsh, lyrical and harmonious dread skank rock rap. Not one of my favorite tracks but good all the same. Track 3 Artist: Turin Breaks Title: Thrown Stone Download Here Turin Breaks are again back on my "most played" list after listening to my Nephew belt out a version of this track on his acoustic guitar the other night. My net connection is down at home at the moment otherwise i would have had the tablature for this one down already! Damn you AOL and your crappy tech support! Its the type of music I aspire to...slow, acoustic and melodic. Just pure class (so sez me anyway). If I ever get to see them live I will snap their little fingers off for being too good. As per usual, the files are hosted by SendMeFile for 14 days ONLY and expire on 17/08/05 at some point.
