Well, I’ve actually got round to doing a compilation. I even surprise myself sometimes. I’ve tried to get the flow right, but there is quite a mix of styles. Hopefully there’s sumting in there for everyone. I wanted to do a truly eclectic mix, but it would have been a double CD at that rate. Those of you that couldn't be arsed to turn out last night will get yours in the post. Email me your addresses please so I know I've definitely got them right. 1. Playground Love – Air: Loungecore at its very best, I just love these guys. It’s a great big duvet of a song that takes me back to the seventies and a childhood of cheesecloth shirts, tank tops and brown flares. I defy anyone to not like it. 2. Teardrop – Massive Attack. Liz Fraser’s barely audible singing is just fabulous. Another dreamy track. 3. Pride’s Paranoia – Futureshock. Mentalist lyrics, but extremely catchy (or annoying). I really thought this lot were going to do well and give a much needed kick start to the dance music scene, but it was not to be. 4. Just Let Go (Thin White Duke Remix) – Fischerspooner: These guys were the lot that kicked off the whole “electroclash” scene back in 2000. The first album had a more experimental sound but was also very similar to early Depeche Mode and Gary Numan. This album is more conventional and coherent but still maintains that 80’s feel. 5. Digital Love – Daft Punk. Our Gallic cousins making another appearance. They were good, and then they went and released the best dance music album ever recorded with Discovery. They were gods! Now they’re shit. I don’t even like house music, but since I bought this back in 2001 it has rarely been out of constant rotation. 6. Super Sport – Tipper: This guy basically invented nu skool breaks. He owns two 1970 Dodge Challengers, has one of the loudest sound systems on the planet in one of them (I know - I’ve heard it!), and races the other at Santa Pod. What a dude! Anyway, back to the track. Bleep, bleep, rumble, rumble. Oh dear, I’ve just had my internal organs rearranged by some sub bass so low only Blue Whales can hear it. Play this loud and totally fuck up your bass bins. 7. Crunch – Dillinja: One of the oldest d’n’b artists still going, and as this tech step track from last year’s Killa-Hertz album proves – the man’s still got it. Makes me want to drop the suspension on my Merc, black out the windows, put 20” chrome rims on it and 4 x 12” subwoofers in the boot. Mash it up!!!! 8. Nobody’s Listening – Linkin Park: I just love the Japanese sounding flute (or whatever) at the start of the track. It’s soooo Kung Fu. Anyway, take those George W Bush loving, cock sucking Limp Bizkit mofo’s to school bwoyee! 9. Ich Will – Rammstein : Foot stomping Teutonic rock! Not arf mate. Often accused of being neo nazis because they just look and sound as though they should be. During the current "Reise, Reise" tour they have worn lederhosen, corsets and vague military uniforms with steel helmets, while during "Mutter" the group kept to the themes of the album artwork and descended onto the stage from a giant uterus wearing nappies. Like some Grimm fairytale brought to life. 10. Feiticeira – Deftones. No, I don’t know how you pronounce it either, but these guys are awesome live – one time I saw them I couldn’t hear properly for 3 days afterwards. Trust me, this is a grower. 11. Sweet Emotion – Aerosmith: Opening scene of Dazed and Confused – a 1970 Pontiac GTO rolls along at about 3 mph to the sound of this song. Aerosmith when they were good. Who says heroine is a bad drug? 12. Low Rider – War: Getting the 70’s vibe here? This track is on here purely because it’s summery and sleazy. Hey man, don’t Bogart that joint! 13. Across 110th Street – Bobby Womack: I don’t know squat about Bobby Womack or this track, except I love it and it makes me want to strut around in platforms and a big floppy white hat. Where’s my fookin’ money beeeeeeatch? 14. Theme from Shaft – Isaac Hayes. I don’t have to give any reasons for why this track is on here now do I? 15. Triple Trouble – Beastie Boys. From the Best Beastie Boys album yet. I can’t think of anything else to say, other than I really like it and I wanted to put it on the compilation.
