Home Grown Dub Mix#3

Now that summers here, even though it seems to have rained every day since the drought warnings, it's time for some summery music. So here's a dub reggae mix I did a couple of years ago. The full version is 1:17:30 in length but to get it up on File Lodge I had to chop it up in 4 roughly equal part. Here's Part 1 (the start) and then Part 2 and then Part 3 and finally Part 4 (the end) Track list :

  1. Sly & Robbie-Nightnurse(Groove Corporation Zionic Man Mix).
  2. Sly & Robbie-Nightnurse(On-U Sound Dub The Patient Mix).

Sport, the odd boy

So as the the whole nation prepares to go football ker-razy (tm the Sun) steel yourself for interminable super slo-mo footage of Englands finest with some Snow Patrol or Keane slapped on top. Cross fade to the Brazilians and some producers brilliant idea of throwing in some samba. It wasn't always this way you know. Nostalgia may not be what it was but we know for damn sure that Sports got a better class of music back in ver good old days. In time honoured reverse order, we start with the ginger step-child of Saturday sport coverage World of Sport, take a listen and try not to imagine Hurricanes and Spitfires flying off to give Jerry a bloody nose. Possibly with Dickie Davies in a white silk scarf. Quite simply the daddy, if only 'cos it was drilled into your brain throughout the seventies Grandstand needs no introduction, we all love the swoopy kettle drum, but did you know about the acid rock guitar solo in this full version, no kidding! It then kicks up a minor 3rd keychange for the big push to the end. I can see Frank Bough in a beige suit leaning over the teleprinter now. See how many young colleagues you can fool into believing this is a lost blaxploitation flick theme a la Bobby Womack or Issac Hayes. Of course not it's Superstars from when Brian Jacks and Daly Thompson ruled the roost. The tune goes under the appropriate name of Heavy Action and it's written by Johnny Pearson, perhaps even more famous in America where for the past three decades or so it's been the theme tune to telly institution MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. But America nicked it off us, which is great. Takes you back to lying in front of the telly on a Saturday evening after fish fingers and chips.
